Cotinus, commonly known as Smoke Bush, are fairly common in garden centres and stand out with deep purple, red, yellow, or green leaves. Being a deciduous shrub, the leaves also change to a striking colour before they drop in Autumn. Flowers are also produced in clusters which appear in Summer.
The shrub can grow to eight metres in the right conditions, though it is best to be left managed to a smaller height.
It is best suited to full sun or partial shade, but can be grown in any soil and is happy in exposed or sheltered locations.
Pruning is not required, and is only needed for damaged or unwanted branches.
