Erica are similar to Calluna, and can easily be mistaken for each other. However, Erica do tend to be larger.
The plants require acid soil and full sun, in a location which is well-drained. Although they can be planted in an exposed site, they are not particularly hardy and won’t survive being frozen. In a cold winter, extra protection such as fleece may be required.
Erica are evergreen, and also produce a many flowers throughout the summer and autumn, though the colour depends on the variety.
