Fatsia are a shrub that look quite tropical with large palmately leaves, but are actually quite hardy in the UK.

The shrub likes a situation with part shade or full shade that is sheltered from strong winds. It thrives in any soil type, and can grow to between two and four metres once it reaches its full height, depending on the variety.

White flowers appear on the shrub in Autumn and are followed by black fruits in either Autumn or Winter depending on the variant. The foliage is generally variegated.

Some protection may be required in the coldest of winters, however any leaves that are damaged by frost can generally be removed once the risk of further frosts have passed.
