Lavandula covers a wide range of plants, of which most in the UK are from Britain, France, or The Netherlands – of which some are more hardy than others.
The most common variants feature blue or purple flowers, however other types such as white and pink are also available.
All lavender plants require full sun in a sheltered location. The soil must also be well-drained which means that clay soils are generally not suitable unless improved to ensure free drainage.
Care should be undertaken when pruning to ensure that cuts are not made into old wood. The best time to prune is immediately after flowering, with a pair of scissors to remove recent growth.
