Pittosporum are evergreen shrubs which have simple rounded leaves, fragrant five-petalled flowers, and produce woody fruits.
Although most varieties can survive in any soil type that is moist and well-drained, they require a sheltered location. Some varieties are also more hardy than others so will require protection in Winter. They are best suited to full sun as this produces the best leaf outcome, however they are also are suitable for part shade.
The shrubs are slow growing, with the larger varieties reaching heights of around two metres after twenty years.
Care should be taken to select the variety due to the tenderness. Protection is recommended in some cases, or moving indoors during cold spells.
