Potentilla are a particularly flowery small shrub which can be grown in borders, or using smaller varieties, in the rock garden.

The flowers appear on the shrub in Summer and can be yellow, pink, white, or orange depending on the variant. The leaves are small and numerous, and are lost over Winter.

Siting Potentilla in full sun is recommended, however they will also do well in part shade. When planted in full sun, the flowers will fade quicker, however in moist soils they will last longer. The soil must be well-drained and somewhat moist. They do not like clay soil however. Exposed or sheltered locations are also suitable, as the plant is very hardy to the lowest of European temperatures.
