Tiarella are a perennial plant in the same family as Heuchera and Tellima. They have small star-shaped flowers which appear on erect stems.
Best suited for full or part shade, Tiarella are particularly good at handling droughts. They are also suitable for any soil except that which is sandy as they like soil which is moist or even poor-draining, however there should not be excessive wetness in Winter. Care should be taken to plant in a sheltered location.
Propagation can be done as soon as the seed has ripened and should be made into a cold frame. Alternatively, dividing the plants in Spring is also usually successful.
A wide range of Tiarella varieties are available.
