Weigela is a shrub which has long arching branches and therefore needs space to show itself off. It can be grown in full or part sun, and even full shade.

The plant produces red tubular flowers during Spring and Summer, and are regularly visited by bees.

It is not fussy about soil type as long as it is well drained, and can be grown in sheltered or exposed locations.

Pruning should be done every year after flowering has finished with ageing stems being removed and any that have flowered. Hard pruning can also be undertaken if required.

Propagation is relatively easy with softwood cuttings, semi-hardwood, or hardwood options available. It can even be grown from seed though the grown variety may not come true to the parent plant.
