She is also looking forward to friend Katy being able to sleep over at her father's new place. Mimi meanwhile is stuck dealing with annoying friend Helen who starts to come on to Joe which irritates his ex-wife. Lucy is also unhappy that Joe won't take her to an exhibit which is featuring his work, while Tom is annoyed at Helen when she steals his lame joke for use in an article she is writing on go-between children. The situation eventually has Joe take the kids to his event, where he reveals a part of his past which lead to him coming back to London to be nearer the children.

Mimi meanwhile is delighted at the thought of Harry giving her another child after the pair talk about it, which is overheard by Lucy who takes the news badly by hiding in the treehouse. Joe discovers that the babysitter who will be looking after Tom and Freddie is stoned when dropping his son off, resulting in him pulling the plug on the sleepover, which has Tom also taking refuge in the treehouse back at home. Joe takes to talking to Freddie's mother, Jennifer, who he discovers is a widow who rides a motorcycle though he discovers she is keen on being celebate in any new relationship while Harry sets about cancelling their invite to New York which had been planed as he looks forward to spend time with his own daughter instead.

1. The Break-up

Tom has become concerned with a mole which has become more prominent for him now that his mother is selling lookalike merchandise for her book characters, as Joe attempts to persuade him to stop the odd behaviour for fear he'll be sent back to see a therapist. Lucy meanwhile is confident at being given a part in a play, while her friend Katy struggles her confidence. Lucy however is beaten to the role due to her "alternative" audition as Mimi does her best to avoid telling her daughter the truth for as long as possible. Lucy takes the situation badly with friend Katy who ends up getting a part resulting in an argument that "ends" their friendship, while Tom's attendance at Freddie's party also goes awry as he chases his crush Poppy. Mimi ends up getting drunk with Katy's mother discussing the situation she finds her kids in.

She is also irritated at her mother refusing to take up an offer to go on Who Do You Think You Are? and her playing up lands her in further trouble by destroying Tom's backup present for Joe resulting in them fighting. Mimi continues to believe that Joe is feeling down on his current work prior to heading off to announce a new story where she thinks she sees her father at the back of the bookstore. Joe meanwhile has grown his hair longer and receives a gift from Mimi - his old lucky suit which was donated to charity by Domenique after they broke up while also discovering that Domenique was having an affair throughout their marriage and their entire wedding was unofficial. Mimi sets about digging into a box at Joe's which was meant for the fetish shop across the road as Lucy begins a mission with her brother to steal a chicken, Clucky, to save it from a battery farm, though on arriving home they discover a load of handcuffs all over the floor while Joe is on tranquilisers after Mimi traps his hand in the car door.

Joe attempts to write an apology to Jennifer about the sex toy and chicken incident though decides on confronting her when he spots her filling up her motorcycle, which also doesn't go well. Tom continues to be annoyed with Lucy as he is no longer allowed to see Freddie, though a bet offer from Lucy suggests she sees an end to his anger, with her challenging him and Freddie that they will say "I love you" before the end of the week. Lucy also has a new despair - the state of the environment - which lasts until she meets a cute boy, Christopher, with a moped. Tom comes up with the idea for imaginary parents while Freddie goes as far as running away which leaves Lucy having to save the day, and puts her plan to win her bet into action.

Lucy has become fascinated with Frida Kahlo, while Joe takes to worrying out his daughter dating with a Halloween party upcoming at which she hopes to dazzle. The situation is also affecting Tom who is less than pleased about Lucy seeing Stevie's older brother. Mimi posits a new parenting theory by counteracting her urge to grow up quickly, while Joe suggests to Lucy that she go to the party dressed as Frida rather than the skimpy costume she initially prefers. Joe meanwhile attempts to avoid in-depth discussion of his work while visiting his mother as talk turns to Domenique's behaviour as she continues to try and keep Joe's paintings. The party goes badly for Lucy as Christopher screams at the sight of her causing her to leave early, which leaves Joe in trouble with both his mother and Mimi, and Mimi in trouble with Lucy when she overhears her criticism of the costume.

6. The Next Story

Lucy and Tom ponder the unfairness of them not being able to have a dog due to both Mimi and Joe suggesting it would complicate the situation with them having to go between two households. Mimi and Joe meanwhile further tangle their relationship when they spend their time watching One Born Every Minute, and reminisce about Lucy's birth, leading them to share a kiss - which is seen by Tom. Tom has a parents evening which is attended by his parents and Harry, while Tom is more keen on being able to sit next to Harry again in class after previously being separated. Joe is commissioned to produce an art piece for a dead dog, though the pet shop owner, Vicky, he has created it for proves to be a little unstable and eccentric, though that doesn't stop him from going to bed with her which comes back to haunt him when he finds himself in the shop with Lucy and Tom.
