The Train at Platform 4

1. Coffee

A new rail franchise is operating on its first day with train manager Sam having high hopes for the cross-country maiden voyage. Problems mount almost immediately though as the marketing teams idea of free coffee for all passengers proves difficult to achieve with Dev new to operating the buffet car and quickly running out. The offer irritates Gilbert who is busy serving his guests in first-class and is horrified by the idea of having to share the scarce resources with those travelling in standard class. Queues for the toilet also begin to build when the automatic door develops a fault causing a passenger to get stuck, and difficult passengers heading to a legal conference, leaves Sam's requirement to get a positive rating on the journey under threat.

2. Cat

On the last journey of the week, the staff are planning their weekend adventures which include Dev going out on a date with an online acquaintance and Gilbert spending a relaxing weekend. A passenger boards with a cat on their way to an audition for an advert which poses a problem for a passenger who claims he has a fear of cats. The woman gets off when the train is held at Newark for a short period, resulting in the train and cat leaving without her, and Tasha having to take over feline-care duties. Eventually getting in touch with the owner, things take a turn for the worst when the cat escapes its carrier. Sam sets about devising a plan to recover the cat and has to take to thinking about what a cat would do - head to the buffet car.

3. Bag

Gilbert is sensing a bad day as a party of school children get aboard the train, and their rather relaxed and care free teacher adds to Sam's worries. Tasha meanwhile is looking forward to watching a Michael Ball concert in Bridlington with her mother, while Dev and Sam have to deal with a passenger who is hit by a bag which drops from the luggage rack, and he turns out to work for the rail regulator. Sam struggles to appease him and avoid a bad report, as the children also cause turmoil in the quiet carriage. As problems mount on the train, Sam comes to a conclusion that the rail regulator is not who he says he is, and sets about handling the various issues with all the staff confronting him and his lies.

4. Gilbert

The train has a bunch of passengers on their way to a war re-enactment while Gilbert is hiding from his step-sister who he describes as a "pain in the arse". Gilbert sets about avoiding her for fear the rest of his family will discover what he does for a living. Sam ends up having to deal with her and discovers his assessment is correct, and sets about sending Dev into first class in exchange. Gilbert meanwhile struggles to handle the buffet car and dealing with standard class passengers and microwaves, and eventually comes clean to Sam that his family believes he is in business. Dev's attempts to enforce ticket policy however ends up with Sam desperately trying to ensure Gilbert and his step-sister avoid seeing each other, while also preventing the re-enactment party from de-boarding when they are held up outside a station.
